I Blame Richie Sambora
I Blame Richie Sambora from Will on Vimeo.
Trying several new things with this animated blog entry.
First, and most obvious, is the use of Vimeo to host the cartoon. Video hosting sites offer some advantages that I can't easily match on my own. The line quality is a bit softer, which I prefer. Also, it saves me a bit of time not having to wrestle an animation into Flash.
Video playback and sharing utilities are also built right into the cartoon, making it more likely that an animation will spread and thus build your audience.
I haven't yet decided if Vimeo is the right hosting service for me. There's also Revver, but the video quality was far below what I was hoping for. YouTube is even worse.
I need to investigate animation sites like MyToons and AniBoom. Their cartoon centric communities will likely appreciate shorts like today's.
Will, as always, your trailblazing efforts are informative and appreciated. Keep us posted as to how you like using this newest distribution service.
LOL, if I had a nickel for every time I got into my wife's car & got blasted by six speakers... Nice funny piece, Will. Also I like the subtle use of the feathered edges in the BG. I've been putting some thought into using them on moving images as well, thought I haven't played with it lately. Hope to see more soon.
This was a superb entry. I laughed so much. I must say sound has improved a lot, Will. It no longer sounds like you're stuck in Get Smart's cone of silence. Loved the animation of the speakers cords jumping around. Awesome.
One issue with this Vimeo thing, though. I don't know if it's just my internet settings at the office, but I noticed the video didn't stay in caché, in contrast with youtube vids, and once I posted a comment and the page reloaded I had to wait for the video to re-buffer again, which was annoying, since it had taken a while the first time, given the crappy bandwidth here. Guess you should know.
Great work! I'm still laughing.
Thanks guys, I really enjoyed this one as well.
Renato, thank you for the information on how Vimeo handles, that is indeed annoying. I will toy with the settings and see if it can be cached. Otherwise I might have to create a YouTube version of lower quality so that users with bandwidth issues aren't turned away.
excellent new short will! i just recieved the first newsletter from you in a while and realized that I hadn't been back here in I guess months. between the move and work everything that was my normal day got swept up in the tornadious (?) fury that came when i had to leave nyc. anyway again... hilarious. I've done that so many times before... and a great song selection I might add!
I love looking at your blog! You manage to get me laughing out loud every time! Hope you're having a good day. Also, do you mind if I do a post about your blog on my site?
Shannon my dear, I would love for you to post about this site. I still have a blog post about your site mulling about in my head.
New cartoons come out every other Thursday. I occasionally discuss publishing cartoons online and ways to make money with your cartoons. If any of that floats your boat I recommend subscribing to the RSS feed or follow my Twitter updates. Rock on.
