Animation Contests - $13,000 Up For Grabs

March 21, 2008
Two animation contests have been brought to my attention this week, with prizes too substantial to not share.

RadioHead Music Video

The first contest is sponsored by the band RadioHead and hosted at Aniboom. They're asking for submissions for an animated music video, using one of their songs from their most recent album In Rainbows. In an interesting turn they're asking for animatic ideas, as you try to win a $10,000 contract to make the final music video. It seems like a small amount of effort for a large reward, although there's sure to be a lot of entries.

Perhaps Politics?

The second contest has a specific animation section to it, where $2,000 will be awarded to the best animated entry. It's sponsored by a relatively new site called Lunatics and Liars, a site about politics and the craziness that surrounds them. Your cartoon submission should be for or against a political candidate. You can either submit to their YouTube channel or at their Genius Rocket channel. I recommend the Genius Rocket route, as your cartoon will be eligible for an additional $1,000 prize.

Calico Monkey discusses animation programs, cartoon software and the art of making your own cartoons. Occasionally I release a new cartoon that has inadvertently made somebody chuckle. Such an outburst is purely accidental, I assure you. All animations were created with Toon Boom.
